I Downloaded Twitter One Week Ago, and I'm Already Addicted.
One week ago, I downloaded Twitter, and it's been the best and worst decision I've ever made. On the one hand, I haven't read in two days; on the other, I've made a slew of writer friends, participated in my first-ever Twitter pitch event...and have sent off my first two queries.
I know. I know. I was supposed to wait until September 10th, but the Internet works in mysterious ways, and somehow I managed to download Twitter just in time for last Thursday's #SFFpit. If you don't know what that is, don't worry, last Saturday I was in the same boat. Basically, #SFFpit is this all-day event where you pitch your book in one sentence on Twitter, using the hashtag #SFFpit, and if an agent likes your pitch, then that means they want you to send them your query! I decided to participate (because when the stars align like that, I think you should listen), but I didn't expect any likes, and I certainly didn't expect dozens of people to comment that my comp titles (remember those?) sounded "delicious" and "amazing" and "chilling".
People did comment those things, though, and thanks to some of my new friends who offered to help me revise my pitches (shoutout to @theantoniagold, @meike_v_x, and @LizySimonen), I got five agent likes! That's five more than I was expecting, so as you might imagine, the past two days have been a frantic dash to finalize my synopsis, query, opening pages, comp titles, target audience, and author bio. Thank God for my friend who offered to critique my query, and thank God for my friend who sat with me all day in a coffee shop yesterday, reading my documents to make sure everything made sense. I adore you both.
As of now, I've sent off two of my five #SFFpit queries, and after this post goes up, I'll be sending out the other three. This coming week, I'll be querying a few of my dream agents, which I wouldn't do so quickly, but...
I got my first partial manuscript request today, and even if that agent backs out, it still means I've written something at least half decent, and I just... I want to make sure I give those dream agents a chance. Regardless of what happens, though, the Twitter #WritingCommunity is making me believe in my work for the first time in my life, and I cannot thank them enough. If you'd like to follow me--or if you have commitment issues and would rather just scroll through my feed--you can find me @_callierowland.
In the meantime, wish me luck--the good kind, as always--and I will wish the same for you.

Manifesting only the best for you, babes!
